Building of an Empire

Over the course of the past year, I have been working on the infrastructure and rebranding to be able to launch the “Granola Empire” (my pet name for this aspect of the business).  Everything just takes longer than expected when working cross-culturally, with technology, and juggling all the things.

The designer I’m working with is amazing and really loves to help make freedom businesses shine. I might be biased, but I think he did a fantastic job on our new upmarket packets. The website is equally as colorful, energetic, and engaging. I’m so pleased with how these really important details are coming together.

What I am most delighted to draw your attention to, though, is the women. They always remain the underlying focus and motivation for why we are in the granola business in the first place! One of my favorite parts of the design is the “In the Spotlight” section on the reverse side.

We have four women on staff, and four flavors. I proposed the idea to the team about having their photo and a quote used in the designs, which (May it be so!) will be seen in grocery store shelves across the nation, and brought home to breakfast tables for all to see. They were excited about this idea and they were more than willing models.. (I can’t say I would consider this an honor, but those are my issues with the camera!) Each woman “claimed” a flavor, and her photo and quote about why Lamprini is important to her is featured on that packet. Once I had drafts of the design, I printed them off and shared for their review and approval

These were some of the best smiles I have seen. There were also quiet tears slipping down cheeks, mine included. Later, when I asked one of the ladies what her tears were about, she said, “The packets are going to be in stores. I never imagined my words would be seen by so many people.”

Remember her context. This is coming from a woman who has been marginalized, verbally abused, and disregarded in her community her whole life. She doesn’t use social media because she can’t read and write. She is not an inspiring “influencer”.  For her, to be the face and voice of a product that will be shared across the nation is powerful. Her voice, her desires, her dreams matter! She matters. She is seen! These packages, with the personal touches, are a small, tangible way to help her, and others like her, see this and to remind the nation as well.

We are building an empire, a granola empire, which looks different and is upside down to what the world might expect, and we are proud of it! May the Granola Empire grow, and as it does, may the Queens of Granola continue to shine!
