A Kingdom Business?

At Black Kite Coffee, we are committed to true success.

What might true success look like? How can we create a business that is truly ethical, accruing profit but NOT at the expense of our fellow human beings or the environment. Accruing profit without falling into greed; growing a business that provides a ripple-effect of benefits in a way that is aligned with Kingdom values.

Well, it would certainly include the bottom-line, making enough money to reinvest. It would certainly include making a return that supports Varsha and her family and enables us to pay staff and farmers a life-giving wage. We hope that, as the business continues to develop, we will be able to look back and see how God has used Black Kite to give hope, prosperity and new perspectives to others.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Varsha recently spent time in Kathmandu, taking part in a week-long business development course linked to Swiss Create Business Academy. Spearheaded by Mario Bruhlmann, the school teaches family-business development practices alongside biblical principles. Varsha was inspired and encouraged after meeting other Nepali family business owners, particularly a lady who runs a 400 strong pig farm in the capital almost single-handedly!

Not to be outdone, Varsha’s husband, Jug, attended a government-run course on coffee plantation establishment and management, alongside our regular customer, friend and fellow coffee entrepreneur, Subash. The techniques learnt will help Varsha and Jug to develop Black Kite’s vision to set up our own coffee plantation.
